vCenter 6.7U2 gives us the ability to migrate from an External Platform Service Controller (PSC) to a consolidated embedded PSC + VC in a single VC Appliance topology and decommission external PSCs . Previous to vSphere 6.7 U2 this could only be completed by using a combination of vcsa-util and .json file.
Official VMware documentation and software media required are listed below.
- Converge documentation
- Download VC6.7U2 ISO – VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-13643870
Once you have the both your vCenter and PSC updated you will need to attach the ISO to the CD-ROM of the vCenter VM. Then mount the ISO to the OS.

Back in vCenter Navigate to Administration > Deployment > System Configuration. Select Converge to Embedded.
Note the VC and PSC versions listed in this panel.
- 6.7.0.31000

You will be prompted that services will be restarted as part of the process making the vCenter inaccessible for a period of time.

You will be promoted for the administrator@vsphere.local account. If you have AD configured you can supply the relevant details here.

Prechecks will run to ensure success of the conversion.

Final notification of services restarting

You can monitor the log to watch the progress. /var/log/vmware/converge/converge.log

Once complete you can log back into vCenter. Note below that vCenter Icon has changed and vCenter has a replication partner of the original Platform Service Controller..

Now to decommission the PSC

Enter the correct credentials – administrator@vsphere.local

Precheck is running

Decommission in progress.

Success.

vCenter will no longer have a replication partner.
